Raspberry!

How's your baby measuring up this week? At a length of about half an inch right now, your baby has graduated from blueberry-sized to raspberry-sized. But weekly growth is getting a bit hard to estimate, and here's why: Growth occurs at about the rate of one millimeter each day, but that growth isn't necessarily just in height. Spurts can occur in the arms, legs, back, and other parts of your baby's body. So, big changes will be occurring every which way in the coming months.

What else is changing at 8 weeks pregnant? A close-up view of your little embryo (say cheese!) would reveal a more baby-like appearance (and thankfully, a less reptilian one). You'd see an upper lip forming, the protruding tip of that cute button nose, and tiny (and very thin) eyelids. And check out those hands and feet! Your baby's webbed fingers and toes are differentiating now, so give your baby a round of applause.

All this growing is exciting for your baby too. How do you know? His or her heart is beating at the incredible rate of 150 times per minute. (That's twice as fast as your heart beats.) Your baby's digs are growing, too. Amniotic fluid increases at a rate of about two tablespoons per week to accommodate your womb's growing tenant.

8 weeks...

June 24th marked our Baby's 8 week "Wombday". Not much of a baby bump yet, but I have no doubt Baby E will start making his/her presence known sooner or later :)

Father's Day

We were able to celebrate Father's Day with my family, below are some pics from the gathering. Jonathan was a great sport with some of the gifts that we got him for his First Father's Day.

I couldn't help it, the baby Texas Tech stuff was so cute!

Just for fun...

My mom decided to add to my Willow Tree collection... see the pictures below, she is precious. Each willow tree figurine comes with a description, hers is "Cherish - Awaiting a Miracle".

Budding Blueberry

At 7 weeks pregnant, your baby's length is approximately a quarter of an inch — the size of a blueberry. Sounds pretty tiny still? Consider this for a little perspective: Your baby is 10,000 times bigger now than it was at conception a month ago.

The biggest fetal growth this week is your baby's head (the better to store all those smarts in), with new brain cells being generated at the rate of 100 cells per minute. How's that for a budding genius?

And talking about buds, your baby is going out on a limb this week as his or her arm and leg buds begin to sprout and grow longer (and stronger), dividing into hand, arm, and shoulder segments — and leg, knee, and foot segments (though the limb buds look more like paddles than hands or feet at this early stage).

Also forming this week are your baby's mouth and tongue. And although your embryo is just one month old, it's already gone through three sets of kidneys. The ones in place now are the permanent set and are poised to begin their important work of waste management. In about a week, your baby will start producing urine. Lucky for you, there's no need for diapers...yet.

Baby's First Pics

We went in this morning for our first sonogram and got to see our baby’s heart beat today, it was just a fast little flicker on the screen (but very exciting non-the-less).

It is hard to see much in the pictures because our baby is still so small. Look for the little blob that resembles a diamond ring (that is how Baby E was described to us by the Sonogram technician). She said that everything looks good and our Baby has a strong little heart beat.

Gender Prediction Chart

So they have so many neat little tools and checklists on "The Bump", which is the family version of "The Knot" (what we used when we were planning our wedding to make sure that we remembered to do everything and to stay organized).

One of the things that I thought was kind of funny was the Chinese Gender chart, from ancient Beijing, which is said to be 90% accurate. It is predicting that we will have a baby girl...

...well, only time will tell if we can add to its accuracy rate ;)

6 weeks along...our little Sweet Pea :)

Growing like crazy (your baby is now the size of a sweet pea), your baby is starting to sprout eyes, ears, nose, cheeks and chin. Those little hands and feet- still webbed like paddles- might wiggle by week's end, the heart is beating (almost twice as fast as yours!), and blood is starting to circulate.

5 Weeks...

Your embryo is now the size of an appleseed. This week, your embryo (looking kind of like a tadpole) is starting to form major organs (heart, kidney, liver, stomach) and systems (nervous, circulatory, digestive).

We have decided to take pictures of the progress of "Baby E" (our temporary name for our sweet little bundle of joy) at certain milestones. Here is the first pic of us at 5 weeks along.

PREGNANT... yay!

Jonathan and I are so excited to announce that we are expecting a new addition to our family on February 3, 2010. We would like you all to be a part of this wonderful journey with us. With Love, Jonathan & Heather
